Artists Statement Nancy and David Pridham share the creation of pottery at Pridham Studio in Creston, BC. Their partnership is a balance between Nancy's artistic energy and David's practical expertise. Historically, ceramic art has been built by one person and painted by another. The Pridhams are happy to continue that tradition.

Artists Biographies
David's thrown pieces are technically precise with a character suited for daily use. Mainly self-taught, he has also gained skills from fellow potters Paul Bodtke (Oregon), Victoria Henriksen (Boswell), and Gunda Stewart (Creston). With techniques learned while visiting Talavera potters in Mexico, David builds his own plaster molds which he uses to support the slab rolled pieces. David has been a potter since 1998.

Nancy then develops the designs, and handpaints each piece. Nancy graduated from Capilano College in Media Arts, studied through the Emily Carr College of Art and Design, and was mentored for four years by MSA artist Bette Rothwell. Nancy started working with clay in Mexico doing primitive pit firing and has been instructed and inspired by Talavera potters. She has been working professionally as an artist since 1988 creating pieces that strike deeply resonant chords in her audience. Her works are in galleries and collections internationally. She has participated in numerous one-woman and group shows, and has received awards from the Federation of Canadian Artists, the Oil Pastel Association of America, and regional and provincial exhibitions.

David and Nancy both work full-time at Pridham Studio. Their 800 square foot gallery leads to the production areas of the studio, where visitors enjoy seeing the work in all stages. The pottery is also sold in numerous galleries across western Canada.

David and I have returned to Pridham Studio, the kilns are cooking, and we're looking forward to the season and what it will bring.

David is the potter, Nancy is the painter, and together we create our distinctive line of Pridham Studio pottery. We invite you to visit our studio and enjoy watching us transform clay through all of its many stages. All of our pieces are made and painted by hand with everyday use in mind.
